TV Wall Mounting in Cambridge | Ant’s Handyman Services

A standard TV wall mount in Cambridge is usually done within the first hour to an hour and a half. How long it takes depends on your wall type, the size of the TV, and whether you want cables hidden — and those are what move the price. Ant’s Handyman Services mounts TVs safely on plasterboard, brick and solid walls across Cambridge and the surrounding villages, with a firm price agreed before any work starts. Current rates are on my handyman prices page.

Who this guide is for

If you’ve bought a new TV, moved house, or you’re tired of it sitting on a unit taking up floor space, wall mounting is one of the most popular small jobs I get asked about. This guide covers what’s involved, how long it takes, and how to get it done properly the first time.

How much does it cost to wall mount a TV in Cambridge?

What it costs comes down to how long the job takes, and that depends mainly on the wall and the level of cable tidying you want. Here’s a realistic guide for the Cambridge area — your exact price is confirmed after a quick look at the job.

JobHow it’s pricedTime
Standard TV mount (bracket supplied by you)Usually within the first hour1–1.5 hrs
Larger TV (50″+) or solid/masonry wallTypically the first hour plus one block1.5–2 hrs

Levelling a TV wall bracket during a Cambridge TV mounting job

How the job works, step by step

  • Check the wall. Plasterboard, brick and solid walls each need different fixings. Getting this right is what stops a TV coming off the wall.
  • Find a safe fixing point. On a stud wall the bracket is anchored into the timber studs; on masonry it’s fixed with the correct wall plugs and screws for the weight.
  • Level and mark. The bracket is levelled properly so the picture sits straight — not eyeballed.
  • Mount and test. The TV goes on, angle and tilt are checked, and everything is tested working before I leave.
  • Tidy the cables. Cables can be run neatly in surface trunking so nothing dangles.

Can you hide the cables inside the wall?

Cables can be hidden neatly using surface trunking painted to match your wall, which looks tidy and is completely safe. Running mains cables inside the wall to a new power point behind the TV is electrical work that requires a qualified, registered electrician — so I won’t cut corners on that. If you’d like a socket added behind the TV, I’m happy to point you to a trusted local electrician and handle the mounting side myself.

Not sure whether your job needs a handyman or a specialist trade? My guide on when to call a handyman versus an electrician or plumber explains where the line sits.

Why use a local handyman for TV mounting?

A dropped TV is an expensive mistake, and most come off the wall because the wrong fixing was used for the wall type. I’m a local one-person business and I do the job myself from start to finish — so you deal with the same person who quotes, fits and stands behind the work. Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to mount a TV?

A standard wall mount usually takes one to one and a half hours. Larger TVs, solid walls, or cable tidying can add up to an hour.

Do I need to supply the bracket?

You can supply your own bracket, or I can supply and fit one to suit your TV size and weight. Just let me know the make and screen size when you book.

Can you mount a TV on a plasterboard wall?

Yes. On plasterboard the bracket is fixed into the timber studs behind the board, or with heavy-duty board fixings rated for the weight. I check this before drilling.

Which areas do you cover?

I cover Cambridge and the surrounding villages, plus parts of South Cambridgeshire, East Cambridgeshire, Huntingdonshire, North Hertfordshire, West Suffolk, Uttlesford and the Bedfordshire border. The full list of villages is at the bottom of this page.

If you’re just outside, get in touch and I’ll let you know.

Do you tidy the cables?

Yes. I can run cables in neat surface trunking painted to match your wall so nothing hangs down. Concealing mains cabling inside the wall is a job for a registered electrician.
